Kamala In Guatemala

Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? I wonder if the rhyming opportunity was the reason she went there and not Honduras and El Salvador rather than the fact that the leaders of those two countries are on record as wanting the policies of the Trump administration reinstated and for the US to stop incentivizing their citizens to leave?

When asked last night by Lester Holt of NBC News (a real right winger if ever there was one) if she had been to the border she, with her characteristic laugh, said that no and she has not been to Europe either. What in the world does that have to do with, what even President Biden has called, a crisis at the border? Also, why is it every time someone dares to question her stance on an issue she laughs them off. What would they call Ted Cruz if he laughed off a question from Lester Holt?

I am always seeking to get the truth of things out. There has been many mischaracterizations on the border and the effects of illegal immigration, a term the Biden administration wants to do away with. Here are a few:

  • Not wanting illegal immigration is not racist. Immigration is good for the country and needed. If you are for legal immigration how can the same person being against illegal immigration be racist? It is not only untrue, it is insulting.
  • Legal immigration is needed as current citizens are not having children at even the replacement rate, about 2.2 kids per couple. It is currently about 1.7. This, along with improved health care, is leading to an aging population. We need legal immigrants to pay the social security and Medicare of the increasing number of old folks, like me.
  • By definition, we don’t know who these illegal immigrants are in many cases. Just yesterday the Customs and Border Patrol said they intercepted people from 70 countries crossing the southern border. This includes folks from Venezuela, Cuba, China and Iran. All countries that would not try to slip in some bad actors? How about gang members, such as MS13. Do we want more of these folks in our neighborhoods? I am not saying most who are trying to gain entry are criminals or terrorists, but when the border is over whelmed with more immigrants today than in the past 20 years, some truly evil people are going to come in.
  • While VP Harris said to the people of the Golden Triangle to not come to the US, the reality at the border is that we are still greeting any and all with open arms. If you are a poor person in Guatemala are you going to believe the words of a person who, when she was a US Senator, said she wanted no walls and no borders or would you believe the actions of her administration? Illegal immigrants are temporarily housed, given health care, food and then given a plane ticket or a bus ticket to unknown cities in the country. That’s right, the cities these folks are being sent to are not told they are coming. One day they will just wake up and find new faces with needs and speaking foreign languages, not just Spanish. Some of those will then start committing crimes. Despite her words, there is no incentive to stop people from coming here illegally.
  • We are encouraging children to make a long and treacherous walk to get here. Young girls are given birth control pills by their parents before they leave as the probability is that they will be raped along the way, probably by the coyotes that have been paid to transport them . Once the children are here they are then sent to “family” members already here. Who are they? Particularly if those folks are illegal, how do we really know who they are? If you don’t believe some of these trusted, unknown family members are actually white slave traders then you are naive. Sorry, but the exploitation of these young girls is happening and we, through our government and tax dollars, are encouraging it. This is a great moral shame on our country.
  • VP Harris and the President are saying that making long term investments in the Golden Triangle is the solution to the border problem. Is there anything reasonable about this? How do you resolve an immediate and overwhelming crisis with long term solutions? This is just a dodge because the more realistic answer is that this is a crisis that the Biden administration not only created, they want it. Almost 60 years ago the Great Society was started with the goal of eliminating poverty in this country. How’s that “investment” working out? If government aid has not worked in almost 60 years here, how will pumping in a few more billion to these corrupt countries going to resolve anything in less time.

Here is my bottom line. People can and should have reasonable debates about what immigration should look like in our country. For example, we could adopt a system like Canada’s, a country liberals are always praising. They don’t let just anyone in. Their system requires immigrants to be fully identifiable, prove they will be there to work and not be a burden on society. They also allow for a small number of asylum seekers. But no, we can’t have that conversation. Here one side has unilaterally decided that illegal immigration and sanctuary cities must be the norm and if you disagree with that, you are a racist. No conversation, just insults. My first wife was from Vera Cruz, Mexico. Her family moved here legally and she had a green card. Now I am a racist because I think her family did it the right way? Very insulting.

After I wrote this VP Harris’s trip concluded. This is what she had to say about her trip to these two countries, “Do I declare this trip a success?” she posed. “Yes, I do. It is a success in terms of a pathway that’s about progress. We have been successful in making progress.” After months of preparation and anticipation, this is the result of her trip, a vague sense of promise? How many more criminals passed through our border and how many young girls were raped during her “successful” trip? She also said that they still had to do the work to figure out why people were leaving their homes and making the dangerous trip to the US. Really? Is there anyone out there that has any knowledge of what has been going on not able to answer this question? See if this makes sense, as President Trump famously said, these are s …hole countries plagued with chronic poverty, crime and corruption. A sad state of affairs that has now been accentuated by the Biden administration putting a “We’re Open” sign on the border and providing benefits and travel vouchers to anyone and everyone. No criminal background checks and no concern whether they have Covid 19. Sad situations in those countries and one can empathize with the honest, hard working people who desire to improve their lives. Noble, but we need a safe, legal system for those folks. As Dennis Miller has said, “we love immigrants, we just want you to sign the guest book on the way in.” We need to put pressure on our elected reps to come up with such a system. However, the answer cannot be the executive branch not enforcing the laws that are on the books. Under the constitution this is their job. Congress legislates and the executive administers. Once you deviate from that you have a de facto dictatorship and we are allowing every administration in modern history to do this. It is wrong. We cannot live in a country that has legislation by executive fiat.

  1. This topic is extremely important to me. Toledo, where I live was found to be the hub of exploiting children for sex trafficking. Some of these girls were as young as ten years old. The girls were sent to different cities. Parents could not find their daughters and would not tell the police because they are illegal. Some parents gave their children to “the nice man” who will “take care” of them for money. Selling their children. If we had a reasonable plan in place then U.S.would see a decline of this trade.

BTW…the two men who were the ring leaders in Toledo turned out to be two beloved pastors….. who are currently in prison….and will be for a long time.

    1. Thank you. This is a great example of the destructive impact of our immigration policies. It sounds great to say “we love immigrants” or “no human is illegal”, but these trite sayings cover up the real harm that is occurring.
