Happy 4th of July! How fortunate are we to live in the greatest country in the history of the world. No country has been a greater source of hope in the world. We have liberated millions of oppressed people around the world and continue to be a beacon of hope to all as evidenced by the millions of people who want to emigrate here, legally and illegally.
While the greatness of America is obvious, we cannot deny or ignore the mistakes that have been made in the past. We treated native Americans terribly, for too long we denied women equal rights and enslaved African Americans. While we have those historical problems, every country in the world has it’s share of problems. What makes our country unique is the the foundation created by our Founding Fathers that has propelled the country to become better and better for 245 years. As it states in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” While all men were not equal under the law at the beginning, the path forward was there. Even the slave owner, Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration, said at the time that there was not a question of should we abolish slavery, but how.
Given this glorious history it is profoundly disturbing to see surveys that tell us that only 36% of young Americans, those aged 18-24, are very proud to be Americans. (Issues & Insights/TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics survey). The same survey shows 35% of the same age group are definitely not proud to be Americans. Thankfully older people are still very proud of our country. Unlike the spoiled young, only 7% of Black Americans are not proud to be Americans while 56% are very proud. If you believed the lies in the main stream media you would have thought those numbers would be reversed. What is going wrong with the young? I am not a sociologist, but I have some thoughts. First, we have allowed our institutions of education to be taken over by America hating, Marxist faculty. Just today the largest teachers union, the National Education Association, came out in favor of teaching kids Critical Race Theory (CRT). While this is already going on in many school districts and most universities, the NEA wants to further spread this divisive and racist theory. CRT teaches that the country was not founded on the principles that are clearly written in the Declaration and the Constitution, rather it was created to protect slavery. It further states that all of the progress that has occurred over the years has meant nothing and that the country is systemically racist and must be dismantled. If you are taught this and similar nonsense, why would you be proud to be an American? Thankfully parents are beginning to wake up and fight back. School boards across the country are being confronted by angry parents demanding that CRT and other lies not be taught to their children. I hope more parents give voice to their frustration and demand their schools teach the accurate history of our wonderful nation. God Bless America.
